English indie pop outfit London Grammar has already teased fans about their new album with four singles 'Baby It's You', 'Lose Your Head' and 'How Does It Feel'. They were all well received and gave a good indication of what to expect from the full length itself. Vocalist Hannah Reid has explained that lyrically the record delves into the issues of feminism and fame and "gaining possession of my own life." Her bold lyricism is combined with lively musical accompaniments which helps mark a notable sonic shift from previous works.

Greta Van Fleet are Michigan rock heroes. That was already established, but with their second album they manage to reach even higher heights. The Battle At Garden's Gate finds the group perfecting yet further what they already excelled at across a selection of hugely energetic tunes that still warrant comparison to Led Zeppelin, but only positively so. Swelling strings and outrageous guitar solos, deeply psychological lyrics and element sou desert rock and Americana all help elevate each track and the album overall. To be sure, there is nothing here that is dazzling new or original, but for lovers of a good old rock record, there are few better.

Coven's Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls is a true cult classic. It is also an occult classic with big Satanic themes and plenty of devil presence in its big rock anthems. The unabashedly Satan-worshipping songs were maybe a bit too much for the times - 1969 - so there was quite the hysteria in the media when it was released (mostly as a result of the Manson Family murders). So much so, in fact, that it was actually recalled. Still, nowadays there is plenty to enjoy about the hard rock and heavy metal styles it deals in.

You couldn't help but feel the smack of irony when Cornershop marked their long-awaited return with an album entitled England Is A Garden. Unveiled in spring 2020, as if the realisation COVID-19, and the full brunt of the pandemic, was about to hit UK shores wasn't enough, there were four years of increasing uncertainty, distrust and anxiety surrounding Brexit to throw on a bonfire, in turn casting this record's name in a decidedly pithy light given the band's inherent diversity and regular use of imported sounds.
But the music on the record is far from a joke, hence the celebratory reception it received even as things felt like the world was coming to a surreal end. Opening with 'St Marie Under Canon', a strong nod to the Northern Soul that has never really disappeared from British nightlife, the tracks that follow boast a multitude of nuances from a variety of genres, whether bhangra, boogie, or indie pop, all realised with aplomb.
