Dark Tantrums
Rage
Artikal Music UK
Dark Tantrums has been on a fantastic run of releases of late, and that trend is set to continue as he teams up with J:Kenzo's Artikal imprint for a heavyweight single drop. This brand new track entitled 'Rage' is a reesey warhead, focussed around a gnarly central bass synth with percussive backing rotating above and below like clockwork. When you couple this with the demonic chord structure and punchy drum processing you are going to be in for a treat.
KXVU
Empire
Southpoint
Southpoint co-boss KXVU returns to the homestead with another weighty dispatch. A year and two dope EPs on Project All-Out and Simply Deep have passed since his debut album Club Inna Caribbean and he's making up for lost time with five serious sphere-spanning sizzlers: "Empire" is all drama and hybrid fire, Writz taps-in for a wry lesson in aggy angularity on "Tekki" and "Hex" takes us deep into the most mystical corners of KXVU's mind. Elsewhere "Koya" applies the breaks for a high speed chase down the darkest of Tibetan alleys while "Ratisu" closes on a lean mean neck snap. Remix-wise Mr B flips "Hex" into a percussive steppy experience while JFO dubs the dickens out of "Retisu". Guaranteed to get your dancefloor into some serious (empire) states.
Riko Dan
Hard Food EP (Explicit)
Tectonic
Across multiple genres of UK underground music, Riko Dan is already solidified as one of the vocal legends. He is also known to step outside the 140 box and work alongside unusual production to create some truly phenomenal work. His brand new EP has been released through Tectonic and is a homage to his vocal versatility, be it the rapid fire patois voicings upon 'Vibration', the slower more dancehall inspired lyrics on 'Slap It Up' or even the uber grimey flows on the title track 'Hard Food'. Along with these we are also blessed with the techy arrangement of 'Hungry', the 8bit melodies of 'Alright Then' and a fantastic remix of 'Big Slug' from the ever creative production fingers of Walton.
Shadow People
Shadow People
Deep Dark & Dangerous
The Deep Dark and Dangerous imprint has been one of the most notable movements within deep dubstep's recent resurgence, having consistently supplied the underground scene with original ideas and themes. With the LA based label's latest project we see them team up with dubstep heavyweights Truth & DJ Youngsta for the debut 'Shadow People' album. Being over three years in the making, it is, as expected, brilliant. Our stand out picks would have to be the eerie yet satisfying soundscaping of 'Deeper' featuring Spikey Tee, the absolutely chilling sub bass pressure of 'Awake Before You' and of course the eastern inspired embarkation of 'Eyes On Me' featuring stunning vocal additions from Rosa. This one is a serious must have for any dubstep fanatic.
Kwizma
Carbon EP
Version Collective
After an impressive start to 2018, Version Collective make a welcome return, this time recruiting the services of Kwizma for a weighty dubstep 4 tracker. Straight from the off on the title track 'Carbon' it's clear where we are headed and that's straight into steppers heaven. Through swampish textures and lightly sprinkled percussive lines we are treated to something monstrous. From here we move into the blazing half time subs of 'Altum' and the more riddim inspired tripleted bass synths of 'Coin Toss', both of which are certain to cause damage in the dance. The EP then rounds off smoothly with the reesey rolls and syncopated drum arrangements of 'Story'. This one is straight out of the deep and dark, mashing up all in it's path!
Spooky
Snow Forest/Funky Dub
Oil Gang
As one of the most keenly awaited grime releases in recent times, Spooky makes a welcome return to the heavyweight Oil Gang imprint for a colossal dual single. The title track 'Snow Forest' runs as a square wave wash, catapulting the eskimo sound into 2018 alongside subtle haunting woodwind melodies and 4/4 drum patterns. On the flip we hear the more energetic, percussion based stylings of 'Funky Dub'. This one combines eskimo flavours with UK Funky, creating uniquely designed rhythms and harmonies. This is a great release for Spooky and Oil Gang to kick off 2018 with for certain.
Ahkur
Boogaloo Dub/Venture
EXCLUSIVE
Sure State
Well, it's safe to say that Sure State have pulled off a cracker with this one, as Akhur is enlisted to bring forward a sub heavy two track dubstep single. We kick off with the "In your face" intensity of 'Boogaloo Dub' which packs a kick like a shire horse. As a composition this one leaps between pleasing, aquatic melodics and sharply oscillating scrapy synth patterns. On the flip we roll into the deeper sounds of 'Venture' which is a stepper's delight. Through a roughneck combo of super punchy drum processing and elongated sub bass leads we are treated to a perfectly composed dark roller. Great stuff from both Akhur and the Sure State team.

Trends & Boylan
Norman Bates
Oil Gang
Oil Gang 015 takes a turn for the unexpected, thanks to some powerful bass experimentations by Trends & Boylan, two freshmen on the scene with a motivation to get down and real dirty with beats; if that sounds a bit sexual, then all the better for it, because these tunes are NASTY! "Norman Bates" is a mishmash of styles and genres, blending together booming blows of bass with aggressive power electronics, and capped with a bit of industrial flare. Boylan's solo mission "Shimmy" is a high-powered grime mutation, while Trends' "Octopus" unwraps its beat-like tentacles over a wonky, shape-shifting tune that reminds us of some sort of marine invertebrate - what could it be!?
Dullah Beatz
Ballys On
Oil Gang
Fresh from his cavalcade of beats on WPF, Dullah makes his Oil Gang debut and it's every bit as shiny and slick as you'd expect as toxic dollops of drama hang of every cinematic dynamic. Instant hench appeal is created with the strings on "Ballys On", sci-fi synths seduce the cosmic mover in the most chiselled of Gs on "Time" while Oil Gang get their own theme tune by way of floaty synth chimes and a classic b-boy bass funk. Throw in the self-fulfilling "Floating" and you've got yourself a winning document. Never a Dullah moment at Oil Gang eh?
Spooky
Fiesta
Oil Gang
UK bass scientists, Spooky, is coming out of all corners at the moment, and he's up on our charts with two EPs this week, the present Fiesta EP, and also a double-header featuring Boylan, both out on the new and rampant Oil Gang label. "Fiesta" is nothing short of a total feeding frenzy, a broken, snare-heavy stepper with dub sirens and Caribbean influences; the sort of tune that would no doubt destroy a club in half, whereas "Cherry" takes a completely different approach; its docile ska bounce trips over hard-hitting snares, yet more dub sirens, and just a general feeling of total curbside swagger. Both excellent tunes that go way beyond the normal confinements of grime and two-step. Bangin'.
Spooky & Boylan
Low Rider
Oil Gang
Spooky & Boylan are back after an exciting debut on the Boxed imprint earlier this year, and the dup pack a mean little punch with this incorrigible two-tracker from the murkiest depths of the dubstep realm. "Low Rider", as the name implies, is a woozy, low-pitched monster with a devilish little juke percussion swinging from side to side, and off every wall. "All Black Winter" speeds up the tempo and unleashes its wonky artillery or sub-bass in the tight spaces between the tune's gunshot-snares and ice-cold hi-hats. A good look for the fast-growing Oil Gang label. Ya dun-know
