Annix
Remixed Vol 1
Playaz
One of Playaz most prominent and influential acts in recent years, Annix get the revision treatment from four respectable producers: Neonlight adds a little space-age hyper speed to "Axshun", the mighty omnipotent Guv turns "Crash" into an even heavier piece of work while Majistrate gets every laser on the planet and condenses them into "England". Finally Ozma turns "Slaughtered" into a savage piece of paranoid jittering weirdness. What a madness.
Bladerunner
48K Soundboy/Multiverse
Souped Up
Unofficially the baddest hombre of the KOTR cartel, Bladerunner steps over to his mate Serum's souper imprint for two understated stinker sessions. "48K Soundboy" huffs and heaves with a nicely distorted bassline that's almost guitar-like in its natural strokes and drums that have a live rattled feel (and some ace pitching on the fills) Multiverse, meanwhile, takes us back with a BC style sci-fi aesthetics and a Charge-style stab in the main riff. Impeccable, as always.
Serum & Pleasure
Catch The Pigeon/Dogz
Low Down Deep Recordings
Serum and Pleasure... What the hell have you been drinking? "Catch The Pigeon" is one of a kind. Nothing but unadulterated fun and mischief thanks to its oddball trippy tones, far-out FX and riff simplicity, it's a truly unique piece. "Dogz" is a little more serious. A kennel-rattling stepper with a bite much sharper than its bark, this one won't just sniff out your hidden goods, it'll take them all too. Ridiculous.
Mutated Forms
Wastegash Remixes (Explicit)
Grid Recordings UK
It's the tune that simply won't quit: Mutated Forms' breakthrough stuttering halftime jam "Wastegash" enjoys two brand new remixes: DJ Limited adds a sassy swung triplet drum and maintains the rifle-like gutter groans of the OG bassline while Freek pushes the original grizzle to the background and adds a whole new level of clanger prang weirdness. Just when you thought the original was timeless and The Upbeats remix couldn't be topped, along come these. Get wasted.
Mefjus
If I Could/Ringshifter
Vision Recordings
Fresh from announcing his forthcoming album on Noisia's Vision imprint (the label spared only for the label bosses, The Upbeats and now Mefjus himself), Mefjus delivers his first solo originals in over two years. "If I Could" is a real hurricane theatre piece with a perfectly manipulated vocal and really airy, light vibe that's underpinned with gritty venom. "Ringshifter" lives up to its name, meanwhile, with some of the most savage angular metallic blasts and punches to ever be served from Austria. It's Mefjus, but not as we know him.
Basstripper
Full Throttle
EXCLUSIVE
Young Guns Recordings
Bare Belgian business: Basstripper makes his debut on Young Guns with four poisonous pieces of work. "Flootdite Of Filth" is all about the addictive Q&A riff magic and dreamy breakdown, "Dominate" focuses on the raw hair-raising vibes with true sandpaper funk craft while "Sine Pugna" flips up a soulful vocal into a Twisted Individual level shock-out. Deeper again we get into top gear with the singular sound rough-houser "Full Throttle" while "Vulgar Way" finishes with some seriously twisted and animated high-end weirdness. Buckle up badboys!
Silent Storm
Army Chatter
EXCLUSIVE
Profound Beats
From zero to bravo in two seconds flat, Silent Storm belies his title with his third militant package of the year. "Army Chatter" is a laser-firing stampede designed to flatten and conquer nations. "Razor" is the ultimate pincer movement with its sneering, searing electrified bass rasps while "Try That Again" stocks up the stabby arsenal for an all-out badman blockage. Finally "Carnage" seeks and destroys with a little help from SMK. Charge after charge of murk muskets, it's another battle won for the Silent soldier.
Furniss
Signature Sound
EXCLUSIVE
On Point Audio
Stoke it up! Furniss brings the heat once again: six tracks, all as on-point as the next, it's the sound of a young rising artist who's really getting into his own groove. "Morning Sound" is an iron shirt wearing triplet-heaving slap session, "Hold It" looks back to the Urban Takeover style with added 2018 distortion and twisted funk, "Afraid" takes deep double bass huffs from the nearest paper bag while "Rasclart" takes away all your belongings in one mean swoopy, such is its villainous charm. Finally we have "See What Happens" and "The Funk". The former is a bounced-out Serumesque slinker while the latter is all out rasping carnage. Bloodclart business.
Lost Dynamics
Let It Roll
EXCLUSIVE
Audio Addict
Previously appearing on DJ Hybrid's Audio Addict Volume 1 mix and the label's 2017 annual, relative newcomer Lost Dynamics finds himself on this all-spanning debut EP. Four pieces of fire ranging from deliciously minimal piano-tickled two-step ("Let It Roll") to groaning gully skankage ("Gun Finger"). In between we have grizzly damagement in the form of "The Arena" and a crucial early-Break style romp that blends spine-trembling soul with think break venom in the form of "You Make Me". Time to get lost...

Command Strange
Planet V: Drum & Bass Vol 3 (Album Sampler)
V Recordings
Astronauts and astronomers alike have been searching for the paradise planet known as Planet V but only one man knows where it is. That man is V don Bryan Gee. Luckily he's happy to take us the planet, and right now he's charging up the rocket for our third trip on pure turbo charge VIP power. For this particular sampler Alibi & Command Strange's collabs from last year both get a variation twist. "Skyline" gets a whole turbine in the bass engine while "Ahead Of Me" is given a subtle twist in the groove department while maintaining that all important roll. V flickingly sublime.
Mentah
Space, Time & Matter LP
EXCLUSIVE
Sub-liminal Recordings
After a string of slamming EPs, Sub-Liminal mainstay Mentah delivers his debut album and it's a powerful piece of work. Punchy and concise at nine tracks, the focus is fully on the floor and hyper-charged with an on-point modern jump-up hybrid sound. The type of cuts you can imagine Randall playing at Breaking Science, 4am, the basslines wobble, the textures drone ominously, the riffs never get too OTT and they all seriously hurt! Highlights include the Benny L style swampy bass on "No Disrespect", the nan-slapping foghorn heaviness of "Alone In The Light" and stinking distorted tripletty finale "Grudges" but that just not even half of this universally heavy tale. Big up Mentah.
Phase
Stakes
Metalheadz
Last spotted on Headz with Villem for "The Traveller" EP, Belgian rising talent Phase gets his first solo EP on the mothership imprint and he's gone to town on the EP. "Malice" lives up to its name with a layers of toxic acid bass and a riff that sounds straight out of a mid 90s F.A.C.T-era Carl Cox set, "Stakes", meanwhile rolls out on a rare, trembling, barbed and paranoid vibe where the pads do all the destruction; red planet exploration business, this is really is marvellously moody. Deeper again we're plunged into the darkest of tunnels with a subtle symphonic touch on "Unground" while Zero T joins for the finale with the creeped-out "The Inbetween". Unhurried in its menace, it doesn't even kick in until a minute and half deep - just the way we like it. With "Stakes" as well done as these, we suspect Phase will be cooking at the Headz kitchen again very soon.
Syndax
Sonic Boom/Playground
EXCLUSIVE
Dub Damage Recordings UK
The Montpellier monster returns! Following his debut on High Bass Audio, he makes his debut on Dub Damage with two stinking tear-outs. "Sonic Boom" hits with an Original Sin level of energy and a bombardment of electrified drama while "Playground" nods towards the Benny L / KOTR style of bass with a bassline that drones on and on like your least favourite relative... But twice as ugly. Ready to play?
Kre & Basshoven
Trippin
EXCLUSIVE
Bulletproof
Get to the safe space! Kre & Basshoven are "Trippin" monkey balls and anything could, and probably will, happen. With a rasping metallic bassline rattling around the room like angry scorpion, pummelling, heavily drums, a range of weird, head-bending textures and a riff you'll be humming from here to the psychiatrist's this is one heavy dosage. Fasten your seatbelts: this is clunk click every trip.
Gnork Presents Dj Shark
Future Music
Unknown To The Unknown
Gnork returns to UTTU for his annual DJ Shark adventure. As broken, classically-trained and timeless as ever, this time round he's treating us to three poignant pieces: "Future Music" is a white knuckle ride down early jungle lane with all the breezes and rushes you could ever ask for; "Shroomz" is led by a beautifully filtered harmonic synth tone that is nicely reminiscent of the tunes trippy title while "Outro" brings the comedown fuzz, all lush and languid. Remix-wise Legowelt opens a whole can of crazy and sprays it all over "Future Music" while Fantastic Man "Outro" into a pensive piece of creepy 4/4 deepness.

Relapse

Paluca

Nic Tvg
Remixes II
Pinecone Moonshine
Nic TVG's Pinecone Moonshine collective deliver a second EP package with three more delicious refixes. Early Grey's 2015 space-out stepper gets a thoroughbred drumfunk dreamboat flip from Dave Hoax while Tokyo's Shins-K takes us back to 2011 for a shattered rhythm twist of Relapse's Down The Sun. Finally Paluca's pretty harrowing experimental piece from 2016 gets a deft roll-up from Fushara. Authentic.
Des McMahon
Black Widow/Falling Apart
In / Rotation
Not yet a year old, but already Insomniac's new talent championing In / Rotation imprint has already blessed us with 25 releases from across the forefront spectrum. With previous releases ranging from Left / Right's blissed bass "Bloom" to LA Riots' late night slinky techno "House Philosophy", they now go full-on D&B mode with Consouls' cohort Des McMahon who delivers two white knuckle wipe-outs. "Black Widow" funks with a perfectly loosened rattle, an evocative vocal texture and well-tamed bass growls while "Falling Apart" provides more of a tunnelling, big breeze effect with mildly liquified pads and a warm sense of focus. Think late 2000s Hospital but with modern day production muscle. In / Rotation = heavy rotation.
