| | Ruxim delivers an EP which spans many elements of the dnb spectrum and all understood to a very high, undiluted standard. 'Open Window' has a certain air of Headz about it, with its sweeping pads and ethereal vibe, deep unobtrusive sub, and twists of mutated techiness. 'Scarlett and Georgie' is more of a rolling, ray of light, waves of warmth, a heartfelt vocal and then unexpected swaths of violent metallic, reminding us of Spectrasoul's glory days, great track. 'Don't Sleep' is an all-out itchy, glitchy attack, the gloriously uncomfortable sound of contortion rules the track. 'Stasis' is our standout tack of the release with melancholic chords, and somber atmospherics, the vocal performance by Jimmy Danger, is sophisticate and suave. Fantastic release. | |
| | At just a year old Reload is a baby every sense of the word, but if this release is anything to go by it won't be long before this Leeds based imprint are playing with the big boys. This extra long EP from High Impact & Objective is eclectic and balanced we've certainly got our eyes peeled. 'Cat Inna Bag' is a nostalgic, happy mix of old Zinc and Shy FX, it had us reaching for our good old Jungle Massive compilation. 'TG's On A Friday' flips the script completely, bringing us into deep, windy tech soundscape. 'Photoshoot' merging crisp breaks with tap glass and a squidgy blobs of sub. 'Blu' is our favourite track of the EP bringing the heartfelt liquid vibes, with rolling breaks, a sparkling piano, and dreamy sci-fi lasers. 'Grandma's Funk' is the only collaborative track on the release and, it's sharp and quick with organic musical drums, guitars and clicks, so much fun to be had with this one. 'Bean Spillage' is a delicate roller with gritty, industrial scrapes but an eerie sense of psychotic calm. 'Haunted' finishes us off with a mutated half-time beat. | |
| | Sometimes you have to look back to look forward. Sometimes you have to look forward to look back. Sometimes you just have to live in the now. Whichever temporal situation you find yourself in, know one thing; Ray Keith has been donning jungle and drum & bass since day one with his mighty and hugely influential Dread imprint and his army of aliases (UFO, Renegade, Terrorist, Dark Soldier, London's Most Wanted, Babylon 5, the list goes on) Here, like the generous D&B Santa he truly is (yes, we are saluting his awesome white beard) he's bringing everyone up to speed with 28 cuts that range every Dread era from here to tomorrow. Serum's VIP-primed soul slammer "Feel For You", Bladerunner's ghostly groaner "Spartan Law" by way of the immense collection from the big man himself, this is an immaculate lesson in jungle with enough upfront exclusives for the biggest completist head. No junglist should be without it. | |
